| The Altamaha Federal Credit
Union was chartered by NCUA in May of 1955 (named Rayonier Employees
Federal Credit Union) to serve employees of Rayonier, a pulp mill
located in Jesup, GA. The office was on the mill premises until 1984
when it was moved to a leased space in downtown Jesup. The charter
was expanded at that time to take in Select Employee Groups. Products
such as share drafts, certificates of deposit and home equity loans
were added to the regular share and loan accounts.
A building was built and occupied in August 1987, at which time
the assets quickly grew. The credit union name was changed to Altamaha
Federal Credit Union in February 1994. The Altamaha River flows
through our area, and this name was chosen to more adequately describe
our field of membership. Due to the fact that we were serving more
and more Employee Groups, we applied for and were granted a community
charter in April 1999. This includes anyone who lives, works, worships
or attends school in Wayne County, of which Jesup is the county
seat.
Altamaha Federal
Credit Union has served its members for over 50 years and continues to
add products, such as Internet Access to individual accounts, ATMs
and Debit Cards. Credit union staff and board members are active
in the community, providing positive exposure and status with area
residents and civic and government leadership. We now have an extensive
marketing focus such as billboard, newspaper advertising, radio
and TV commercials.
